Dubbing and our level of English
One reason why the level of English in Spain is so low compared to other European countries is because the cinema, television programs, documentaries ... content is doubled our language. This is due to the fact that during the war there was much poverty and people could not go to school, and the film industry was forced to bend all the films to the large number of illiterate people who had . But the dubbing has remained until today without any concern for how it might affect culturally or the impact it might generate in the education of children because of the view all the content in the same language. Currently, the barrier of illiteracy is over, so we should have a much more open mind and learn to appreciate audiovisual productions in the original language, as well as other content for broadcast television. It is true that TVs offer the option to change the language in the original version, but it is an effort that the viewer has to perform. The new law generally requires broadcasting this year that 90% of the overall content of public television and 75% of private is subtitled. It is a very positive initiative, although this law has been slow, but I also believe that we should follow the example of the UK, where the BBC subtitling 100% of everything that is.
